One World Flight
One World Flight is an old time radio documentary. It featured producer Norman Corwin. His idea and the premise of the show was to fly around the world, interview people from all walks of life, and in the end show the public that we truly were a global society.
In One World Flight, Corwin was accompanied by CBS recorder Lee Bland. In four months they had traveled 42,000 miles and had visited 16 countries. They talked to the rich, the poor, famous politicians, heads of state, union officials, you name it. They really did get a full spectrum of interviews.
When they got back to the US, the work really began. They had to go over all of their interviews and notes, finally coming up with 3700 typed pages. And from this work came the acclaimed old time radio show One World Flight.
World War II was just over when this undertaking started. Former presidential candidate Wendall Wilkie. Although he had lost the election to FDR in 1940 by a landslide, he, and FDR did have one thing in common. Both of them saw our country as part of the world. The isolationist movement was over.
Wilkie had created the One World award, going to people who saw the big picture of what was going on in the world post WWII. The first recipient of this award was Corwin, for his show and book One World Flight. Corwin had already helped his country quite a bit as he had done other projects for the War Department, State Department, and CIA.
This old time radio documentary is a 13 part series and is complete. The quality is very high, and each episode is about 30 minutes long.
