You Are There is an old time radio series that did historical re-enactments of historical events such as The Trial of Burr, The Oklahoma Land Rush, and The Battle of Gettysburg. It used the angle of having a 'modern' reporter at these events. Starting out as 'CBS Is There', it changed after 23 episodes to 'You Are There', which is the name most old time radio fans remember the show as.
The premise was to have an actual radio reporter at the scenes or events being dramatized. Good for history buffs, and just plain entertaining for the rest. Airing from 1947 to 1950, in 1953 You Are There was made into a TV show starring Walter Cronkite.
The stories are all about important events and people both in US and ancient history. This show has seen a resurgence as of late. It was a featured program on some stations ran by National Public Radio, as well as being a mainstay for many people who home school. Very educational, it has also been used in traditional schools as well. Educating and entertaining all at once. Each episode is just under 30 minutes, and are on a two disc MP3 CD set.
